Alan Wecker

Emerging Venture AnalystSMUD Energy Efficiency Fellow

Biography

Alan is a second-year UC Davis MBA student with a focus on energy and finance. He received his B.A. in Psychology from Pitzer College. Since study abroad in South Africa, Alan has been interested in how energy can create economic opportunities for people in impoverished areas. Prior to attending the Graduate School of Management, he worked in education and data management for political organizations.

Alan began working with the EEC to help develop a case study analyzing best practices learned from UC Davis West Village, the first zero net energy community in the country. The focus of the case study is on the regulatory barriers the developers had to overcome and financial incentives used to build the community. He has also helped the California Technology Lighting Center at UC Davis design the survey for the Chevron Energy Solutions “Cities Project.” This project was designed to determine the ways that cities collaborate with utilities to retrofit streetlights. Alan has also worked with the UC Davis Energy Institute to help develop advanced biofuel research on campus. He worked this summer for the Energy Efficiency Center as a Market Research Intern; he examined ways to allow energy utilities to recognize the energy savings from water conservation.
