David Thayer

Emerging Venture AnalystSCE Energy Efficiency Fellow

Biography

David is a second-year UC Davis MBA student with a lifelong commitment to energy and the environment. He has worked on renewable energy and real estate development in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors and recently co-founded a tech startup.

Originally from Massachusetts, he received his undergraduate degree from Boston College and began his career as an AmeriCorps VISTA member. Upon moving to San Francisco, he entered the solar industry and worked in various capacities for SunPower Corporation during a tremendous growth period. His experience there galvanized his interest in energy and early-stage companies.

David started as a volunteer with the Energy Efficiency Center when he began at the Graduate School of Management. He began work on a market characterization study of multi-tenant light commercial buildings, and is now leading the effort to finish the characterization. The study is part of a PIER grant in partnership with PG&E, Southern California Edison (SCE), and Sempra Energy to develop energy efficiency retrofit solutions for multi-tenant spaces. At UC Davis, David sits on the GSM Dean's Student Advisory Council and is a member of Net Impact and the Clean Technology Club.
